Traditionally, safety management systems involve a series of inspections and disciplines as a way to keep injuries and losses to a minimum in a work place. While these processes can be effective in their own right, they are retroactive, not preventative. This brings about the need for a newer, more effective way to enhance the safety in a business. Behavior-based safety (BBS) practices could prove to be the solution.
In a BBS process, the employees are actively involved in creating and executing a safety program for the company. They are encouraged to participate, with the support of the management staff.
